Anesthesia Day – 2019

Anaesthesia, a branch of medicine born on this day of October 16, 1846, that put an end to pain from a surgeon’s knife. This day celebrated globally as World Anaesthesia day to commemorate the first demonstation of ether anaesthesia by W.T.G. Morton in Massachusetts General Hospital. This day changed the course of medicine. Anaesthesia enabled surgeons to perform a plethora of surgeries and more importantly made the patients experience of surgery as good as deep sound sleep.

October 16, 2019: Raja Rajeshwari Medical College and Hospital (RRMCH) celebrated World Anaesthesia Day in a grand style. This day saw the Department of Anaesthesiology organise a series of events to celebrate the World Anaesthesia Day. The team of anaesthesiologists dressed in customized Tshirts with logo “We save lives” visited a school belonging to the Sacred Group of Institution in Ganapatihalli on Oct 16. This community outreach program was attended by about 100 high school students. The doctors demonstrated Basic Life Support and Compression Only Life Support skills to the students on an advanced mannequin. This interactive session taught students the basic lifesaving skills that can be invaluable in a medical emergency until ambulance help arrives. The students participated actively and also volunteered to practice these skills on the mannequin. This event was followed by fun filled entertaining program in the hospital auditorium. The program was inaugrated by Dr Usha, Dr Sahajananda and Dr Rangalakshmi. About 200 doctors, nurses and paramedic staff attended the program. The anaesthesiology team presented several dances and a colourful skit. The skit was particularly interesting as it took the audience on a time travel from stone age to current day anaesthesia practice in RRMCH as well as to what anaesthesia might look like in future.
