  • This CME enlightened about proper approach to Renal Disorders.
  • The Kidney was earlier considered as a mere compensator in the cardio-renal axis. It is now deemed as a chief participator in regulation of this axis. Dr. Prashanth Kumar, Professor of Physiology, helped us recall the basic Physiological role of circulating and tissue RAS (Renin angiotensin system) in cardiovascular regulation.
  • The Incidence of ESRD (End stage renal disease) and renal replacement therapy is increasing at an alarming rate due to Complications of Type II DM. It is important to identify the individuals at high risk of developing nephropathy by using risk markers. Dr. Vidhyashankar. P, Nephrologist enlightened us about one of the important risk marker proteinuria and clinical approach to it.
  • Dr. Rajaram T., Pathologist and Dr. Krishna M.V., Clinician broadened the horizon of our knowledge on Pathophysiological basis and management aspect of Diabetic Nephropathy. Recent epidemiological evidence indicates that even mild renal dysfunction will have poor out come in patients with diabetes. Knowledge of the pathophysiology of Diabetic Nephropathy will help us to develop bio markers for the early detection of renal dysfunction and enabled us in risk profiling of these patients leading to improved therapeutic and interventational stratergies in the management of Diabetic Nephropathy.
  • Despite evolving sophistication in hospital care, Acute Kidney Injury remains the commonest cause of high morbidity and mortality.
  • Dr. Shashidhar.K.N, Biochemist elaborated upon the markers of Acute Kidney Injury.

Date: 2nd & 3rd – 11th & 12th September 2015

  • Dr.V.Govindaraju, Medical Superintendent of Akash Medical College, Bangalore, gave the key note address, after which the scientific sessions started.
  • The diagnostic laboratory plays an increasingly vital role in the delivery of health care services. Clinicians relay on accurate laboratory test reports for proper diagnosis and management of patients. This CME in true sense enlightened us about “ The Role of Laboratory Medicine in Diagnosis and Management”
  • Topics like “Preanalytical errors in Laboratory” and “Six sigma implementation in clinical Laboratory” helped us to implement them in the clinical laboratory to improve patient satisfaction and global profitability and decrease health care costs
  • IEM (Inborn error of metabolism) are not rare in India. Tandem mass spectrometry is a very useful tool for new born screening and screening of clinically suspected children. This CME succeeded in providing the knowledge about this ideal technical tool.
  • Type II DM is major burden on our health care resources. Strict maintenance of glycemic level reduces the diabetes related morbidity and mortality. HbA1c is the most reliable marker to monitor the glycemic control. Hence it is obligatory to know the factors affecting HbA1c levels and its biological variations as clinical decisions can be severely compromised by these.
  • This CME also helped us to know about cost –effective Thyroid Evaluation: when and How?
  • It also broadened the horizon of our knowledge on the Causes and consequences of Sodium Imbalance, CKD-Mineral bone disease, Chemical carcinogens and cancer protectives.
