About the Programme:
The departments of Pathology and Central Research Lab have conducted a CME on 06-03-2020. On this occasion Guest Lecture was delivered by Dr.Chandrasekhar Sagar B.K, Prof. of Neuropathology, NIMHANS on “Transmission Electron Microscopy and its application in Medical Sciences”. The event was organized by Dr. Sharmila P.S, Professor and HOD, Dept. of Pathology and Dr. S. Prabhakara working as a Senior Research Scientist & In-charge, CRL.
Later, Dr. S. Prabhakara from Central Research Lab has delivered a welcome speech and gave a brief introduction on Chief Guest to the audience. Nearly 250 members including teaching faculty, PGs, UGs and Interns of RRMCH attended the Guest talk. The chief guest explained the principles and procedure of electron microscopy (EM) and how it can be applied either in diagnosis or in research.
He explained the application of transmission electron microscopy in research by giving examples like role of Temozolomide (TMZ), Lonidamine (LND) and Radiotherapy on brain tumour cells. The students were excited seeing the ultrastructure of the cell and clearly understood the mechanism of drug TMZ and LND that majorly affects Nucleus and cellular organelle-mitochondria respectively. Chief guest also explained how radiation affect cellular organelles like Endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi bodies, plasma membrane etc.,
Further the chief guest continued explaining how EM study supported the role of Hibiscus sabdariffa leaf extract in protecting the liver cells in diabetic mice. Later Chief guest was felicitated by Dr. Sharmila P.S, Prof. & HOD of Pathology and Professor Dr.C.J.Prakash. The entire event was co-ordinated by Dr.Nalini M Assoc. Professor of Pathology and anchored by Dr.Ramya II year PG student Pathology.At the end vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Shashikala K Associate Professor of Pathology Dept. RRMCH.
