“World Leprosy Day” was observed on January 30th, 2019 and the staff & post graduate students from the Department of Dermatology, RRMCH in association with the Department of Community Medicine, RRMCH organized a Leprosy screening program held at Byalalu Government School near Chunchunkuppe RHTC for 75 school children and for the general population in and around the area from 10AM-1PM. This program was aided by IADVL and ILDS.
This event was followed by a leprosy awareness program at Summanahalli Leprosy Rehabilitation center, Nagarbhavi for the inmates and the caretakers residing at the center. The District Leprosy Officer, Dr. Nadeem along with Dr. Belliappa(HOD), Dr. Umashankar, Dr. Lokanath, Dr. Vinutha, Dr. Dheemant,
Dr. Shanmukha participated in the program. The inmates and their families along with the caretakers were educated about the various treatment modalities available at RRMCH for disability prevention and management by Dr. Vinutha and moderated by Dr. Belliappa and Dr. Umashankar. The inmates were asked to be referred to Department of Dermatology, RRMCH for ulcer management for free of cost.
The program was a great success. Henceforth, we look forward to conducting more free Leprosy Screening Camps.
