Dermatology, the science of skin, is one of the many specialties that have evolved from general medicine, although its recognition as a distinct specialty is recent.
Dermatological diseases (including Venereology and Leprology) constitute approximately 30% of outpatient attendance in any hospital. They are often easily noticed by others and cause great social concern to the patients. Skin disorders are an important factor causing psychological burden and very often their association with internal diseases, makes the subject special and important to study in the current scenario. Considering this fact and to provide specialty services to the rural population in and around Bangalore, the Department of Skin & V.D was established since the inception of the college. The department though initially accredited to undertake training of undergraduate students, presently is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to train young doctors for postgraduate degree in dermatology. The modern anaesthesia is comparatively of recent origin dating back to a century and half, before which “Surgery was an agony”. Introduction of general Anaesthesia in 1846 (W.T.A.Morton), combined with aseptic techniques, permitted increasingly extensive and complex operations to be performed. Present day monitoring facilities and pain relief made the Sevier safe.

We have an excellent infrastructure with 17 fully equipped air conditioned operation theatres. It comprises with remote controlled tables, LED shadow less lights with cameras beaming the proceedings along with audio in our demonstration room. We have fully automated Anaesthesia workstations with multi-paramonitors in every OT; specialized equipment like nerve locator, nerve mapper, fiberscope, and a difficult intubation cart.

Department of Pharmacology strives to train undergraduate and post graduate students of the college in pharmacology. We believe that a good physician has to be a good pharmacologist too. The Department has a vibrant post graduate teaching program catering to various aspects of experimental and clinical pharmacology. The training is conducted so as to produce a blend of traditional skills along with a modern outlook so that the trainees can start from scratch on any drug related issue and are capable to take the matter to logical conclusion. We help our students to gain a thorough knowledge of medications, such as various routes of administration, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, adverse drug reactions and dosage schedules. Hands on practical training of Drug Assays and Pharmacometrics are supported by thoughtfully planned seminars, workshops.
Students understand the general principles of drug action and select, prescribe suitable drugs according to the need of the patient. They are guided to use rational drug combinations judiciously in the best interest of the patient. Students are made to appreciate the essential drug concepts and translate that in terms of drug needs for a given community. The faculties and post graduate trainees undertake and participate in research projects in addition to their teaching work. The Department also inculcates and encourages research aptitude in undergraduate students and helps them to undertake short term studentship research projects. With well-qualified and experienced faculty guiding them, students can look forward to an interesting course. The faculty keep themselves up-to-date by participating in national and international conferences and-presenting scientific papers. This in turn keeps students updated.
