Breast Feeding Awareness Week

RRMCH always focuses on the new trends in medical treatment and conducts seminars, quiz competitions and similar programs to keep the students and faculty updated of the latest approaches in Medical Science. In a similar context, Paediatrics department at RRMCH has organized Breast Feeding Week, starting from 1st of August to 8th of August, 2013. As a part of the program, RRMCH has organized various informative and educative competitions related to the topic. Dr. Mallikarjuna from MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, who is a venerated figure in the medical community will be giving a guest lecture on 5th August 2013.

RajaRajeswari Medical College-Hospital organizes a Breast Feeding Awareness Week as a part of World Breast Feeding Day. The events will span over a week, beginning from 01/08/13 to 07/08/13. The event is organized by the Department of Pediatrics under the guidance of Dr. Adarsh E., Professor and HOD of Pediatrics.

The main theme of this year is – Breast Feeding Support- Close to Mothers. CME for the first two days shed light on the importance of breast feeding care of mother. Students, Staff and Faculty from the Department of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Community Medicine were a part of this program and their vigorous participation made it a grand success. More programs are in pipeline which will be very innovative in their approach. To tell an example, one program is a one-one interaction between a Mother, Social Worker and Doctor to give awareness for the well being of the new born and the mother as well.

Competitions like Quiz, Skits, Drawing, and poster presentation are being conducted amongst the medical fraternity. Their enthusiastic participation takes the spirit of the program to a whole new level. In a nut shell, the program is targeted at educating the young mothers about the advantages of breast feeding. Breast feeding in the first hour just after the birth improves the chances of survival of child and reduces mortality rate.
