Department of Pediatrics is observing “Breast feeding Week”. Date: 05/08/2021 Time: 9:00 onwards Venue: Kadamba Hall (College Auditorium) Speaker: Dr Najajyothi. S. and Dr. Surabhi. H. S. ALL ARE CORDIALLY INVITED. Every year world breast feeding week is observed from August 1st – August 7th to encourage and promote good breast feeding practices. This year with the theme is “PROTECT BREAST FEEDING – A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY”. The Department of Pediatrics celebrated “World Breast Feeding from August 1st to August 7th focusing on the need for protecting and promoting good breast feeding practices prioritizing the responsibility of the family and society in supporting breast feeding. The Department of Pediatrics, RRMCH have been celebrating world breast feeding week from past 14 years. Continuing the good efforts towards bringing awareness about breast feeding, this year also the department has taken initiative in celebrating World Breast Feeding Week successfully from August 1st till August 7th and as a part of one week celebration, each day the department had organized various events to promote, protect and support breast feeding. The program started with inauguration on 02-08-2021 by Dr. Adash, HOD, pediatrics. The program was held at Kadamba Hall (College Auditorium) hands with other departments gracing the occasion. The inauguration was followed by an excellent informative talk about the need and necessity of breast feeding by Dr. Adarsh, HOD, Dept of Pediatrics. There was poster presentation competition among the post graduate students which was held to bring out the innovative thoughts and ideas in bringing aware about breast feeding through the handmade posters. On 03-08-2021 the department had organized a quiz program at kadamba Hall (college auditorium), involving the post graduate students from pediatrics, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Department of Community Medicine with a great number of audience including the clinical and non-clinical hospital staff and students from various departments. On 04-08-2021 , the department had organized a ‘Gathering at post natal wards’ and Dr. Nagajyothi, Associate Professor, department of Pediatrics educated the breast feeding mothers about the need for breast feeding, good breast feeding practices and also about the advantages of exclusive breast feeding to the baby and created an awareness among the attendees of the post natal mothers about the necessity and importance of breast feeding and also their share of responsibility in protecting the breast feeding. On 05-08-2020, a teaching program for the undergraduate students was organized at kadamba Hall (college auditorium) and an impressive and informative talk was given by the doctors, Dr. Nagajyothi, Associate Professor, dept of pediatrics and Dr. Surabhi, Assistant Professor, dept.of pediatrics regarding the importance of breast feeding that included the misconceptions, false beliefs and wrong ways of breast feeding and also about good breast feeding practices in overcoming the problems. On 06-08-2021 the department had organized a community health visit at KR Halli, to create awareness about breast feeding among the general public. On 07-08-2021, the last day of breast feeding week, a gathering was organized at hospital lobby that was graced by the medical superintendent Dr. Praveen, Dr.Adarsh, HOD, Dept of Pediatrics and heads of all the departments and also all teaching and non teaching staff of the hospital , the undergraduate and post graduate students along with a huge general public. The Pediatrics department post graduate students have performed a skit, supporting the need for breast feeding that had received a great response from the hospital staff and the general public. This was followed by Prize distribution for the winners and participants of the various events in the breast feeding week , the prizes were distributed by Medical Superintendent – Dr. Praveen Kumar.
