Guest Lecture – Humanity

Humanity is the best way to build a better world for we humans belong to one another. Early exposure to the concept of Humanities in medical profession benefits patients by making better doctors and also be beneficial for the physician as an individual. In this era of increasing dissatisfaction within the medical profession, a doctor also needs the tools to develop and nurture their own humanity so that they can continue their work, healthy mind and body. To inculcate humanity in budding doctors Guest lecture on “Humanity” was organized by Physiology department for Ist yr MBBS students on 17/3/2023.The Eminent Professor of Physiology Dr Mario Vaz, working at the International Medical School, Ramaiah-Bangalore, was invited for guest lecture. It was conducted for duration of two hours from 1.30 to 3.30pm at lecture hall, first floor, college building, Rajarajeswari medical college and hospital. Around 300 students and faculty members from various specialties’ participated in the guest lecture. Master of ceremony for the programme was by Dr Mythri. Dr Yogesh MK gave brief introduction of Speaker. Following which Dr Mario Vaz mesmerized audience with his talk emphasisng the importance of humanity in clinical practice and everyday life. Sir stressed about how to bridge the gap between health and humanity through history of medicine, bioethics, and social medicine. Lecture was followed by interaction with the students. Prior to the guest lecture, a photography competition was organized for Ist MBBS students to know their perception about humanity. There was an enthusiastic participation and around 26 teams participated. A short video clip was played showing the glimpses of the photography competition. Competition was judged by a panel of judges:- Dr Sathyamurthy Dean RRMCH, Dr. Srinath Prof & HOD Urology & Dr Sailakshmi Prof & HOD. Felicitation of our guest of honour was done by Dr.Praveen Kumar, Medical Supt. & Dr.Basavaraj Bhandare Vice principal RRMCH. Cash prizes and certificates were awarded for the winners under following categories by the guest of honour.

The program concluded with vote of thanks. Online feedback was taken from all the students. The guest lecture was a grand success with overwhelming participation and positive feedback from all students and faculties. There was request from the students to conduct more of such programs in future to inspire and motivate them.
