International Infection Prevention Week & World Antimicrobial Awareness Week – 2025

The Department of Microbiology (HICC), RRMCH successfully organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on 16th December 2025 in observance of International Infection Prevention Week and World Antimicrobial Awareness Week – 2025.

The programme was conducted under the theme “Stand, Unite, Prevent, Protect, Prevail for Infection Prevention – Act Now, Protect Our Present, and Secure Our Future.”

The CME commenced with a welcome and introductory address by Dr. Archana B R, highlighting the importance of infection prevention and control (IPC) in safeguarding patient safety and combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This was followed by an insightful guest lecture by Dr. Sandeep T on the role of IPC in AMR, emphasizing evidence-based practices and the urgent need for collective action.

Dr. Praveen Kumar, Medical Superintendent, delivered a brief note on institutional IPC practices, after which IPC Torch Bearers from various departments were felicitated in recognition of their dedicated contribution to infection prevention and control.

A panel discussion involving experts from Urology, Anaesthesia, Paediatrics, and Microbiology was conducted, with Dr. Sangeetha S as the moderator. The session facilitated active discussion on multidisciplinary approaches to infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.

The programme also featured creative and cultural activities, including a skit on the development of antimicrobial resistance, a dance performance by nursing staff on needle-stick injury prevention, and a hand hygiene–themed performance by the NICU nursing team, effectively reinforcing key IPC messages.

Competitions such as quiz, rangoli, and poster presentations were conducted as part of the awareness activities, and prizes were distributed to the winners. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Lakshminarayana S A, acknowledging the contributions of speakers, participants, and organizers.

The CME successfully enhanced awareness, encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration, and reinforced the institution’s commitment to infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.
