Orientation on Clinical Skills Lab and Central Research Lab (CRL) was organized for Phase II MBBS students of 2020-21 Batch on 27th October 2022 between 11am to 1 pm. The students were initially briefed about the visit by Dr Anagha M V, Dr Mythri G – Skills Lab Coordinators and Dr S Prabhakara, Professor and Head of Central Research Laboratory. The students were divided into two batches. One batch visited the Clinical Skills Lab and the other to the Central Research Laboratory. At Clinical Skills Lab, the students were leaning to different stations in smaller batches and were demonstrated few of the skills. Few more students got a chance for a handson session. CPR was demonstrated by Dr Seema G, Dr Raghava GN, Dr Anushree MN and Dr Monica Krishnappa. ACLS and Crisis Management was demonstrated by Dr Harshitha R ( Emergency Medicine) . All the students were given a hands-on session on Airway Management by Dr Anagha M V and Dr Supriya. Basics from Department of OBG was demonstrated by Dr Srigouri Sitharam and Dr Sarala H S. Students were demonstrated various ENT and Ophthalmology procedures by Dr Ashish Rao, Dr Sunil Kumar M, Dr Shilpa Rao and Dr Amareshwari V H . Dr Yashaswini MK and Dr Sangeetha P demonstrated the various ward procedures; Dr Mareshwari – catherization and Dr Vidya G S breast examination techniques. Dr Sandeep K M and Mr GJK Prakash Raju explained the various trauma related mannequins. The SIMMAN Simulator was shown to the students by Dr Yogesh MK and Dr Mythri G. The students visiting the Central Research Laboratory were also shown various equipments in research lab, briefed about the various services offered by CRL, briefed on the funding, the patents and the current ongoing research work by Dr Prabhakara S. Further, Dr. Prabhakara stressed the importance of research and how they can utilize these facilities for their STS ICMR and other research projects. Ms. Revathi gave a demo on Agarose gel electrophoresis, Nanodrop Spectrophotometer (ND-2000C; Thermo, USA), PCR,RT PCR instruments and Fluorescent Microscope (Olympus- BX 43; Japan). Dr. K.S. Nirmalagave a demo to students on EEG and ENMG instruments. Mrs. Meenakshihas explained about the Deep Freezer (- 80oC; Eppendorf; Germany), ELISA Reader, (Multiskan Go, Thermo, USA) and explained the Importance and applications of the instruments. Dr. Anbazhagan K and Mrs. Shurthi showed the animal cell culture facilities and explained the applications of the Flow Cytometer and Cobas e 411 (Roche-Hitachi;USA) Autoanalyzer. Finally, Mrs. Megha has shown the equipments like Micro Balance (MSE 3.6 P-000-DM, Sartorius, Germany), PH Meter (Sartorius;PP50; Germany), Rotavap (Superfit; India) and briefed about how these instruments can be utilized for carrying out research work.
