Sankranthi Celebration at RRMCH

Makara Sankranthi / Pongal is the harvest festival of Southern part of India, celebrated on 14th or 15th of January in the English Calendar. RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital celebrated the Makara Sankranthi / Pongal on 12th of January 2023. Dr. Rohini and Mr Mukesh has acclimated the stage with grand celebration. College was decorated with colorful Rangoli and flower garlands. It was an ambience filled revelry, music, dance and the joyful faces reverberated with big smiles. The Pongal was prepared in earthen pots. The chanting of Pongalo! Pongal! Pongalo! Pongal! was exciting for the audience. The decorations of sugarcanes, banana stems, the bullock cart, Ban fires, replicas of huts added a festive look to the event with its rural look. Lighting the lamp, pooja at the beginning of the celebrations, worshipping and feeding the cows was an enriching moment of the event. With a country as diverse as India, rituals and folklore vary from state-to-state. While the overall concept of the festival remains the same, each state celebrates Pongal / Makara Sankranti with a touch of its own traditions, this was infact the highlight of the event. The cultural programs had an essence from each state and it is this rich and colourful tapestry of tradition that shines at very heart of our culture. Food – States celebrating Sankranthi / Pongal are rich in their authentic Savories, which was prepared as per state and distributed among all the staffs and students of RRMCH. Pongal (Kara and sweet), Yellu Bella, Dahi, Chura, Tilkut, Til Laddu, Bengali Peetha, Sugar cane were all among the food which was distributed.
