The Post Graduate Orientation Program 2026 was conducted on 9 March 2026 to welcome newly admitted postgraduate students and familiarize them with institutional rules, hospital functioning, academic requirements, and professional responsibilities.
The program commenced at 9:15 AM with a Welcome Address by the Dean, Dr. Sathyamurthy B, who greeted the newly admitted postgraduate students and emphasized the importance of dedication, discipline, and professionalism during their postgraduate training.
This was followed by an Address by the Principal, Dr. Basavaraj Bandare (9:30 – 9:40 AM), who highlighted the core values of the institution, expectations from postgraduate students, and the crucial role of postgraduate education in shaping competent and responsible medical professionals.

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & neck surgery (ENT) celebrated World Hearing Day on March 4 th with an awareness program conducted in the hospital lobby. The event aimed to highlight the importance of ear and hearing care, promote early detection of hearing loss, and educate the public about preventive measures. The world hearing day 2026 theme is From communities to classrooms: Hearing care for all children. The programcommenced with an inaugural address by the Head of the Department of ENT Dr T.M.Nagaraj, who emphasized the global burden of hearing loss and the need for early identification and intervention.
This was followed by an address by our Medical Superintendent Dr Praveen Kumar sir, who spoke about the importance of public awareness regarding hearing health. He emphasized the responsibility of healthcare institutions and professionals in educating the community about preventive ear care and ensuring that individuals with hearing difficulties seek timely medical attention.

The Department of Anatomy at RajaRajeswari Medical College & Hospital organized an insightful guest lecture titled “Turning Concepts into Marks – Histology & Embryology Simplified” on 28th February 2026 (Saturday) from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
The program began with an invocation, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Mangala S, Head of the Department of Anatomy. The keynote speaker for the session was Dr. Vasudha Kulkarni, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy at Akash Medical College & Research Centre.
Dr. Vasudha Kulkarni delivered an engaging and student-focused lecture, emphasizing the importance of understanding core concepts in Histology and Embryology and effectively translating conceptual clarity into examination performance. She shared practical strategies to simplify complex topics, making them more approachable and easier to retain. An online quiz conducted through Google Forms added an interactive dimension to the session, encouraging active student participation and reinforcing learning.
The lecture witnessed enthusiastic involvement from students and faculty members. Feedback collected through Google Forms reflected that the session was highly interactive, informative, and beneficial in strengthening conceptual understanding.
The program concluded with the felicitation of the guest speaker by the Dean, followed by a vote of thanks by Mrs. Padmalatha, Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy. The event ended with high tea, providing an opportunity for informal interaction and discussion.
Overall, the guest lecture was a meaningful academic initiative that enriched students’ learning experience and reinforced the importance of concept-based learning in medical education.

Dr. Samagani visited INS Kadamba, India’s largest naval base located in Karwar, where he delivered a keynote address at the LEGALCON National Conference. The conference was attended by senior officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, making it a distinguished gathering of defence leadership and medical professionals.

The award-winning research paper titled: “Nanopore Genomic Analysis of Multi-drug Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae from Critically Ill Patients: A Case Study” highlights the application of advanced nanopore sequencing technology to analyse multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens in critically ill patients. The study provides valuable insights into genomic characterization, antimicrobial resistance patterns, and the potential for precision diagnostics in critical care settings.

Coronary angioplasty is a nonsurgical treatment for blocked or narrowed passages in one or more of the coronary arteries. This procedure allows a normal supply of blood to flow through the heart muscle.
Angioplasty can be done in several ways, depending on the type of plaque, size and shape of the artery including:
• Balloon angioplasty. A catheter (thin tube) with a balloon on the end is threaded through the groin up to the narrowed artery. The balloon is then inflated at high pressure one or more times to widen the artery and allow blood to flow more easily through it.
• Stent implantation uses a balloon catheter to move a thin metal scaffolding (a stent) into a narrowed coronary artery. The balloon catheter is inflated, expanding the stent and permanently fixing it in place in the coronary artery to keep it open. Because the stent is a foreign object in your coronary artery, you should receive a stent card that describes the type, date and location of the stent. You will not set off any metal detectors after stent implantation.
By the same token, you will not have to take antibiotics before surgical or dental procedures to prevent bacteria from infecting your stent, unless your doctor specifically orders it.
• Laser angioplasty (Excimer Laser coronary angioplasty – ELCA) involves inserting a laser-emitting catheter into the narrowed part of the artery. Once the laser is turned on, the plaque is vaporized, thus reducing the block in the artery.
• Drug-eluting stents are a new type of stent that slowly release drugs that help prevent scar tissue from forming inside the stent. When scar tissue formed in older types of stents, it sometimes caused another blockage and a return of symptoms. This required another stenting procedure.
• Valvuloplasty is a non-surgical technique that uses dilation catheters to increase the flow of blood through narrowed or tight heart valves. This procedure is similar to percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty in that a catheter is inserted through the femoral artery or vein (depending on the valve problem) in your groin and advanced to the narrowed area guided by X-rays. A dilation catheter is inflated to make the heart valve opening larger and improve blood flow.
• Atrial Septal Defect/Patent Foramen Ovale Closure is a non-surgical technique to seal a hole in the dividing wall of the upper chamber of the heart.
Preparing for coronary intervention and its follow-up are the same as for cardiac catheterization.
As with an angiogram, angioplasty procedures are done using a local anesthetic. You will be awake but drowsy during the procedure. The procedure may last up to two hours longer than the catheterization.
