International nurses Day theme “our nurses our future the economic power of care” by Department of Nursing, Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospitals – 29 May2024.
International Nurses Day is observed on May 12 every year. This is to commemorate the birth of Florence Nightingale in 1820, the foundational philosopher of modern nursing. The event, established in 1974 by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), also serves to highlight the important role of nurses which has to be fulfil in health care.
In view of this Rajarajeswari Medical College & Hospital , celebrated the International Nurses day on 29th May 2024.
The guest of the event was Sr. Eugin Plavara Alexander , Nursing superintendent, St Johns Medical college & Hospital. Dr. AC Shanmugam – Founder Chancellor, RRGI, Dr.Naveen.S – Principal, RRMCH, Dr. Sathyamurthy. B – Dean, RRMCH, Dr. Basavaraj Bandari – Vice Principal, RRMCH, Dr. Praveen Kumar – Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sahajananda.H – NABH Coordinator, RRMCH.
The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by all the dignitaries, and then preceded with a welcome speech. The speech included ‘the thanks’ to the nurses and ‘the recognition of their noble contribution’ also. Senior Nurses were felicitated for their long services. There was Cultural performance by all the staff and program came to an ended with a vote of thanks and a official lunch to all the participants.

The Department of Emergency Medicine, RRMCH, Bangalore celebrated “World Emergency day” on 27th May 2024.
A Poster competition for undergraduate students was held on this occasion. The common emergencies were demonstrated in the Emergency room like Acute coronary syndrome, Snake bite, Polytrauma, Choking, Cardiac arrest, Cardio pulmonary resuscitation. More than thirty undergraduate students participated with seventeen poster presentation. Dr. Harshith Mundra, Associate Consultant, Emergency Medicine, Manipal Hospital, old airport road, Bangalore and Dr. Sahajananda. H, NABH coordinator, RRMCH were the judges.
A quiz competition for the interns was also arranged on the topic of BLS, ACLS, ATLS, airway management, resuscitation. Twelve teams of interns participated. Dr. soumya Subhra datta, Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine, RRMCH, Dr. Shabbir shekhli, Associate Professor, RRMCH, Dr. Ambareesha. M, Professor and HOD, Emergency Medicine, RRMCH were the judges.
A guest lecture “On Heat emergencies” was delivered by Dr. Harshith Mundra, associate consultant of Emergency Medicine, Manipal Hospital, Bangalore. Dr. Ambareesha Mairpadi, Professor and HOD, Emergency Medicine welcomed the chief guest. Dr. Harshith Mundra, Dean – Dr. B.Sathyamurthy, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Praveen Kumar, Vice Principal, Dr. Basavaraj Bhandare, Dr. Sahajananda H – NABH Coordinator, HOD’s of various Departments , Faculties, PG’S, Interns and Students. Dr. Shabbir Shekhli, Associate Professor gave a introduction of the guest speaker Dr . Dr.Harshith Mundra.
Dr. Harshith Mundra spoke ‘On Heat emergencies’, ‘Heat related illnesses’, Heat Exhaustion, heat Stroke and the management in ED. The guest lecture was followed by active question and answer session in which more than 112 delegates participated.

A comprehensive workshop was held on May 25th and 26th, 2024, organized by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Respiratory Chapter, in collaboration with the Department of Paediatrics at RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital (RRMCH). The event took place in the prestigious Kadamba Hall located within the RRMCH campus. This workshop saw an impressive turnout, with 110 delegates and 7 esteemed faculty members from across India in attendance.
The delegates had been engaged in an intensive three-month training program conducted via online modules under the guidance of the faculty members. The workshop provided them with an invaluable opportunity for hands-on sessions and certification. Dr. Kalappanawar, the Chairperson of IAP-NRC, presided over the event. The distinguished faculty members present included Dr. B. S. Sharma, Dr. Neetu Talwar, Dr. N. K. Subramanya, Dr. S. S. Rawat, Dr. Manjunath, and Dr. Anil Sapare, who each facilitated the various workstations.

The PTM for the 2022-23 Batch, II MBBS Students from the Paramedical departments was conducted on 23rd & 24th May 2024, Thursday & Friday at Kadamba Hall, RRMCH. The Meeting commenced @ 10:00am on both days and concluded @ 2:00pm. Dr. Sumitha Ram, Professor, Dept of Pathology & Chairperson of the PTM (Paramedical) Committee addressed the gathering with a warm welcome to all the parents & the mentors. Dr Sathyamurthy, Dean of RRMCH addressed the parents and emphasized on the importance of the meeting and gave brief introduction about the concerns & queries the parents can discuss with their ward’s mentors & other teachers of the respective departments.
During the 2 day meeting, parents engaged with one on one interaction with their ward’s mentors in presence of Principal Dr Naveen Sir, the respective Head of Departments Dr. Jyothi A Raj (Pathology), Dr Lakshminarayan (Microbiology) & Dr. Basavaraj Bhandare (Pharmacology). Some of the parents who could not be present physically were addressed through online discussion over the phone. Various aspects such as academic performance in Ist PCT, Home Assignments, Continuous class Tests, Attendance, Behavior and suggestions with regard to student improvement were discussed.
To ensure comprehensive support, Estate Officer Mr. Prasanna, wardens from both boys’ & girls’ hostels were present to address concerns regarding food, accommodation & transport by the parents.
A total of 85 parents participated in the PTM. Feedback forms were collected from all attendees upon its conclusion.
We are delighted to share with all that Mr. R Mohammed Arman Khan, first year MBBS, RRMCH student participated in the “Model United Nations” (SSMUN) conducted at ‘Sri Sidhartha Medical College, Tumkuru’. He represented Canada at the World Health Organization. As a delegate of Canada, he played a major role in presenting before the committee some important motions such as ………

He also actively participated in debate and dialogue with other delegates on various critical issues. As a delegate of Canada he also played a major role in solving the emergency crisis. Recognizing the role he played at the WHO committee, this role as the delegate of Canada was awarded a Gold Medal with a high commendation and also awarded with a cash prize of rupees 1,000.

Around 16 students from First year MBBS, RRMCH Participated in EPIGNOSIS 7 – A Biochemistry Quiz Competition held on 24/05/2024 at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College & Hospital, among these students, six students were scrutinized after conducting a preparatory Biochemistry quiz competition of the entire syllabus. These 6 students were divided into two groups depending upon their score in the quiz competition and registered for the quiz. These two groups were trained thoroughly with all rounds of quiz competition by Quiz Master Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry.

A workshop on VPD and AEFI- Adverse Events Following Immunization – Reporting was organized by Department of Community Medicine and Department of Pediatrics on 22nd May 2024, from 11 am to 4 pm at Smart class room in RajaRajeswari Medical College & Hospital, in coordination with World Health Organization, National Health Mission, Immunization Technical Support Unit, Govt of Karnataka.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr Shasikala Manjunatha, Professor and HOD Dept of Community Medicine in presence of Dr. Sathyamurthy, Dean, RRMCH, Dr Praveen Kumar, Medical Superintendent, RRMCH, Dr Basavaraj Bhandare, Vice Principal, RRMCH, Dr Adarsh E, Professor and HOD, Dept of Paediatrics. Dr. Ashish gave a brief introduction of the Resource persons Dr Nagaraj NT – WHO – Surveillance Monitoring Officer, Karnataka, , State Coordinator for AEFI Reporting – Medical Colleges
The workshop was held in two sessions. Dr Nagaraj NT spoke on Immunization programme in India: NIS-UIP, Status update on coverage, zero dose and monitoring, MR Surveillance, AFP Surveillance, DPT Surveillance. Dr Manasa AR spoke on AEFI Surveillance System: monitoring and reporting, Morning and evening session was attended by staff and PGs from departments of Community Medicine, General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, OBG, Pharmacology, Ophthalmology, ENT and Dermatology. The Workshop was co-ordinated by Dr Manasa and Dr Chandana for AEFI reporting at RRMCH.
The sessions concluded successfully by Dr Chandana and Dr Shashikala Manjunatha and Dr Adarsh E handed over the mementos to the external speakers. Beverages and Lunch were served (Sponsored by World Health Organization.).
