Their’s truly is the story of hard work, perseverance. These trioka from ACS College of Engineering, Mr. Vignesh, Mr. Tabrez, and Mr. Pavan have made our city proud. In the recently held National Aeromodeling Competition held at New Delhi. There were 170 teams representing the best in the field including 5 IITs in the field.
The entry into the completion was by chance. In one of the casual visits to the face book, they saw the opening and found themselves in the third position in the Zonal competitions held at IIT, Kharagpur. The final was held at IIT Delhi and the 3 teams from each zone qualified for the finals.
In the finals, the problem given to the students was this: Build an aircraft that should not exceed the dimension of one meter * one meter. Its thrust to weight ratio should not exceed 0.75.
They built first aircraft which crashed, the second followed same fate, then the third, fourth, fifth aircrafts also met the same end. They were to leave for the finals the next day. These impediments did not deter them. The three students put their hearts and soul and within three hours the 6th aircraft was ready and they were ready to take off.
In the finals they had several rounds. In the qualifier round, the determinant was the climb and the gliding time of the aircraft. After having successfully completed this round, the team from ACSCE went to the manoeuvre round where in the students had to make the aircraft go through a distance of 25 meters vertically and 10 meters horizontally. Their aircraft did this effortlessly thus giving their city a proud place in the National Aero Modeling arena.
This win has boosted the morale and the confidence of the students and the next step is making a single seat aircraft. Surely for these boys, sky is certainly not the limit.
