An awareness and interactive programme was organized at JSS School, Channasandra on 27th May 2026 on the occasion of “World Menstrual Hygiene Day” by the Urban Health Training Centre, Department of Community Medicine, RRMCH. The theme for this year, “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld,” envisions a society where menstruation is recognized as a normal biological process and is free from stigma and discrimination.
• The programme commenced at 11:30 AM with an introduction highlighting the significance of World Menstrual Hygiene Day by Dr. Manasa A. R., Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine.
• Health education sessions were conducted by MBBS interns using handmade charts, covering topics such as menarche, menstrual hygiene practices, various menstrual products, nutritional requirements during menstruation, the importance of physical activity, and the need to dispel common myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.
• A skit depicting the appropriate practices and precautions during menarche and menstruation was performed by the interns, effectively conveying key messages in an engaging manner.
• Subsequently, the interns, along with the staff of UHTC, school teachers, school management, and students, took a pledge to support the creation of a #PeriodFriendlyWorld in accordance with UNICEF’s initiative. Participants also expressed their solidarity by taking part in the Red Dot Challenge.
• The programme was organized under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Srividya V., Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, with active participation from Dr. Manasa A. R., Associate Professor, UHTC Channasandra staff, and MBBS interns.
• A total of 80 students (both boys and girls) aged 12–16 years participated in the programme. An interactive question-and-answer session was conducted, during which students’ queries regarding menstruation and menstrual hygiene were addressed.
• The programme concluded successfully by 1:00 pm.
Transport was arranged by RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital.
The event served as an effective platform for promoting menstrual health awareness, encouraging open discussions, and fostering a supportive environment for adolescents to understand and manage menstruation with confidence and dignity.
