Busting Myths-Does Nicotine Cause Cancer?
Nicotine does not directly cause cancer or lung disease. The primary harm comes from the toxic substances produced during the combustion of tobacco in cigarettes. Cigarette smoke contains over 7,000 harmful chemicals, including tar, carbon monoxide, ammonia, formaldehyde, arsenic, and cadmium, which are responsible for the severe health risks associated with smoking.
Nicotine, though addictive, is relatively harmless in itself and is often used in lower doses as part of cessation therapies like Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). These alternatives minimize exposure to the harmful toxins found in cigarette smoke. Efforts to reduce tobacco use are critical, given the increasing cases of cancer and tobacco-related diseases worldwide.
