The Department of General Surgery, Raja Rajeswari Medical College & Hospital (RRMCH), Bengaluru, successfully organized a CME titled “Multi-Disciplinary Horizons in Robotic Surgery” Theme: Precision, Clinical Outcomes, and Cross-Specialty Collaboration ,on October 9, 2026, at the Kadamba Hall, RRMCH Campus. The scientific program brought together clinicians, surgeons, and postgraduates for an insightful exploration into modern surgical technology, next-generation platforms, and cross-disciplinary patient care across diverse specialties.
The scientific sessions covered key updates in robotic-assisted techniques:
The Evolution of the Robotic OR: Dr. Uday M. Muddebihal opened the scientific proceedings by discussing next-generation platforms, multi-quadrant access, and ergonomics. His talk explored how modern robotic consoles and instrumentation have transformed the operating room environment, allowing for superior surgeon posture, enhanced dexterity, and efficient multi-quadrant workspace navigation during complex abdominal procedures.
Robotics in GERD & Colorectal Surgery: Dr. Manish Joshi addressed the applications of robotics in GERD and colorectal surgery. He highlighted how robotic articulation and high-definition 3D visualization improve precision during delicate hiatal hernia repairs, fundoplications, and challenging colorectal resections where pelvic space is limited.
Endoscopic Rescue Management: Dr. Ravindra B.S. provided a gastroenterologist’s perspective on managing post-robotic or post-laparoscopic surgery complications, POEM (Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy), ESD (Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection), and robotic surgery. He emphasized the complementary role of advanced therapeutic endoscopy in rescuing and managing postoperative luminal complications.
Precision Urological Interventions: Dr. Suraj Reddy detailed robotic radical prostatectomy (nerve-sparing) and partial nephrectomy (ischaemia control). He discussed techniques to preserve erectile function and urinary continence during prostate cancer surgery, alongside precise vascular control and minimal warm ischaemia times during kidney-sparing tumor resections.
Complex Gynaecology & Pelvic Floor Reconstruction: Dr. Punyashree focused on severe deep infiltrating endometriosis and mesh repairs. The session showcased how robotic platforms facilitate meticulous dissection of obliterated pelvic spaces in severe endometriosis and offer structural accuracy during complex pelvic floor defect repairs.
Robotic Abdominal Wall Reconstruction (AWR): Dr. Manish Joshi returned to discuss TAR (Transversus Abdominis Release), the eTEP (extended Total Extraperitoneal) approach, and robotic bariatric surgery. He elaborated on how minimally invasive component separation techniques like TAR and eTEP restore abdominal wall integrity in large, complex hernias, alongside the precision offered in weight-loss procedures.
Robotic LAR & Pelvic Nodal Dissection: Dr. Ramachandra presented on robotic LAR (Low Anterior Resection) with TME (Total Mesorectal Excision) and pelvic nodal dissection. He emphasized how the stable camera platform and wristed instruments enable meticulous oncological clearance in narrow anatomical spaces, reducing morbidity and improving functional outcomes.
Cross-Disciplinary Debate: All specialty panelists engaged in a comprehensive debate on “Medical vs. Surgical Management, Robotic Ergonomics, Learning Curves, and Cost Viability”. The interactive session evaluated the balance between technological advantages, financial considerations, and the structured training required for surgeons mastering next-generation platforms.
The programme concluded successfully with a felicitation ceremony, a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Radha Rajeev Banahatti, and a networking lunch at the 5th Floor College Building. The event reflected RRMCH’s dedication to continuous medical education, advanced surgical technology, and cross-specialty collaboration.
