Health Education and Awareness Programme on Breastfeeding at RHTC Chunchankuppe

The Department of Community Medicine, RajaRajeswari Medical College & Hospital (RRMCH), in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics, successfully conducted a Health Education and Awareness Programme on Breastfeeding at the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Chunchankuppe, on 5th August 2026, as part of World Breastfeeding Week 2026.

The programme was organised in alignment with the theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” with the objective of creating awareness among the community about the importance of breastfeeding and promoting healthy breastfeeding practices.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sri Vidya, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, and coordinated by Dr. Harsha Gowda, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, RRMCH. Dr. Sri Vidya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Sahana, Professor, and Dr. Arpita, Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, were also present and shared valuable information and practical guidance with the participants.

Around 46 community members from Chunchankuppe benefited from the programme. Interns posted at RHTC Chunchankuppe actively participated in the initiative by preparing informative and visually engaging health education materials to facilitate better understanding among the general public.

The awareness session covered key topics including the physiology of breastfeeding, its importance and benefits, correct breastfeeding techniques, and common myths and misconceptions related to breastfeeding. The participants were encouraged to adopt appropriate breastfeeding practices and understand their vital role in ensuring the healthy growth and development of infants.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to clarify their doubts and receive expert guidance from the faculty.

The event was successfully conducted with the enthusiastic participation and support of the faculty, staff and interns of RHTC Chunchankuppe, contributing meaningfully towards strengthening community awareness and promoting optimal breastfeeding practices.
