Helinet Consortium

RRMCH organizes ‘Helinet Consortium’ to shed light on its effectiveness

According to the planned schedule, 1st session of seminar (Preclinical and Para clinical teaching staff and post graduate students, Dental Faculty and PG Students and Nursing faculty) was started at 11:00AM on 7th June, 2013. Mr. Kiran R, Chief Librarian RRMCH welcomed all including Chief Guest Dr. Rama Raj, Urs University Librarian and consortium coordinator of RGUHS, Karnataka, Dr. D.L. Ramachanrda Medical Director, RRMCH, Dr. Rangappa, Addl. Medical Director, RRMCH, Dr. Satya Murthy, Prof. and HOD Dept. of Anatomy, RRMCH and Dr. Mary Prem Jayarajan, Prof. and HOD Dept. of Physiology. Dr. D.L. Ramachandra inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp and gave a brief about the subject.

Dr. Rama Raj Urs began his session by delivering a presentation on the subject, ‘Use and Access of e-journals, e-books and databases’. He has given a detailed explanation about Helinet consortium use, information on accessing privileges, downloads, benefits and features. He used live internet connection to demonstrate his points and notified the dental faculty of the possible technical issues they might face when accessing the journals and also explained them how to resolve those issues. After his presentation, an interactive session took place between Staff, Students and University Librarian, on the subjects ‘question papers availability, dates, problems with IP Enabled access, continuous service problem happening for 24×7 etc. University Librarian also explained how to write articles and submit for publications. Then, S. R. Varun from Elsevier Inc , delivered a speech about Science Direct and MD Consult platforms under the subscribed list of e-journals, e-books and clinics of Helinet for the faculty of Medicine, Dental and Nursing. Mr. S. R. Varun clearly explained how to access the Helinet journals and files through internet and download with the help of various search engines (Using Author, Title, Keywords and other facts). He also showed the audience how to copy the images and text. He also informed the audience that maximum numbers of dental related journals are available in Wiley-Blackwell.

After the Lunch break 2nd Session began at 2:15PM for the participants who wanted to join exclusively for that session. But some of participants from the previous sessions also joined them. 2nd Session participants were most of the Clinical staff, Post Graduate Students and Interns of RRMCH. Dr. Rama Raj Urs graced the second session also as he delivered a speech about 20 minutes and then he invited Mr. Souman Chanda from Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd. to explain about e-books access and downloads. After twenty minute speech by Suman Chanda , Mr. Rajendra Kumar from Walter Kluwer Health delivered a presentation about Lippincott Williams and Wilkins subscribed list of journals for the medical faculty and the way to access the LWW Subscribed journals and download from them. Second session ended with the vote of thanks from Kiran R. Dr. Rangappa presented bouquet to all the speakers including Dr Rama Raj Urs who was the guest of honor.
