Management Strategies in Diabetic foot

A Guest Lecture was organized by the Department of Surgery on 28 April 2015. Dr. U Vasudeva Rao, MS, FRCS (Glas and Lond), FICS, FAIS, Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon, Manipal Hospitals, Bangalore spoke on ‘Management strategies in diabetic foot’.

The eminent speaker stressed on the fact that Diabetes mellitus is one of the commonest endocrinal disorder in India and that diabetic foot is a debilitating complication seen in a large number of patients. He highlighted the pathogenesis of the disease and the evolution of various treatment modalities. Drawing upon his vast experience in this field, he emphasized on the various aspects of investigations and treatment with well accepted international guidelines, and in areas where there remains a lack of consensus, he brought out the divergent views based on extant literature.

He also gave a management algorithm for the junior practitioners in the field. The speaker cleared the air on several doubtful issues during the interactive period that followed his talk.

The lecture was well attended by students and faculty alike. The programme was followed by Tea.
