The
40th Eye Donation Day was commemorated on
4th September 2025 at
Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital (RRMCH) with great enthusiasm and purpose. The event began at
10:30 AM with an invocation song, followed by the lamp lighting ceremony, signifying the illumination of lives through the noble act of eye donation.
Dr. Nithisha T.M., Head of the Department, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the s
ignificance of eye donation in restoring sight and urging the medical community to continue spreading awareness and
encouraging donor pledges.
The event’s focal point was the talk delivered by the Chief Guest,
Dr. Sharon Dsouza, Consultant at Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore. She presented an informative and thought-provoking session on corneal transplantation, discussing current advancements, clinical challenges, and the essential role of public participation in improving donor availability.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, guests, faculty, students, and organizing team for their contributions in making the event a meaningful success.

Day 1 of the Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) covered essential aspects of competency based medical education including group dynamics, learning domains, framing learning objectives,teaching–learning methods, and assessment strategies. The sessions were interactive,informative, and provided participants with practical approaches to integrate into their teaching.
The day concluded with participants gaining confidence in applying CBME principles and an improved understanding of interactive teaching–learning methods and assessments.

Dr. Prabhakara S, Professor & Head of the
Department of Genetics and Central Research Laboratory at RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital, has been awarded a prestigious research grant from the
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Government of India.
The grant, amounting to
₹14,04,043 (Rupees Fourteen Lakhs Four Thousand and Forty-Three), has been sanctioned for the project titled:
“Identification and Screening of Candidate Genes for Paroxysmal Movement Disorders by Next Generation Sequencing Approach for Developing Molecular Diagnostics.”
The project will be conducted over the period
16th February 2025 to 15th February 2026 and aims to contribute significantly to the field of neurogenetics by leveraging advanced genomic technologies to improve diagnostic precision for paroxysmal movement disorders.
This achievement reflects the dedication and research excellence of our faculty and reinforces the Central Research Lab’s commitment to advancing medical science through innovative and impactful research.
