Report On Inauguration Of Tobacco Cessation Centre (TCC)
ln line with its commitment to promote public health and combating the adverse effects of tobacco use, the Government of India has decided to establish Tobacco Cessation Centres in medical colleges across the country. This initiative aims to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure by integrating specialized services for tobacco cessation into the educational and healthcare framework. Accordingly, the Tobacco Cessation Centre at RRMCH was inaugurated virtually by Hon’ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J.P.Nadda on 24th September 2024. The program was presided over by Dr. Sathyamurthy B, Dean, RRMCH, Dr Praveen Kumar, Medical Superintendent, RRMCH and Dr Basavaraj Bhandare, Vice-Principal, RRMCH.
The event was attended by Heads of various departments of RRMCH along with teaching staff. The centre constitutes team members from Departments of Community Medicine (Nodal Officer), Psychiatry and Pulmonary Medicine under the guidance of Dean/Principal.
The program started around 11am with key note addresses from various dignitaries from the department of Health and Family Welfare, national level sportspersons and other celebrities. Virtual inauguration of TCCs at all medical colleges across the country was done by the Union Health Minister. The programme concluded successfully with all of us taking the pledge to stop tobacco use, encourage and support others in quitting tobacco use.
