RRMCH Joins Peaceful Protest to Demand Justice for Dr. Moumita

The faculty, doctors, and students of RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital (RRMCH) gathered at the campus to participate in apeaceful and solemn protest in response to the tragic death of Dr. Moumita, a young medical professional who was brutally raped and murdered on the morning of August 9, 2024, at a Kolkata hospital. The protest, organized in alignment with a call from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), aimed to raise awareness about the increasing violence against healthcare professionals and women. As part of the demonstration, the doctors wore black attire and lit candles to honor Dr. Moumita’s memory and demand justice. During the protest, Dean Dr. Sathyamurthy B and Medical Superintendent Dr. Praveen Kumar, along with other faculty members, students, and doctors, spoke out against the widespread injustices faced by healthcare workers and women. They emphasized the urgent need for swift and accurate legal action, highlighting that justice delayed is justice denied. The gathering also called for enhanced safety and security measures to protect healthcare professionals, who are increasingly vulnerable to violence in their workplaces, and urged authorities to expedite the legal process to hold those responsible for such heinous crimes accountable. The event concluded with a moment of silence, observed by all present, to pay tribute to the victims of sexual assault across the country and to reaffirm their commitment to the fight for justice. The demonstration served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle against violence and the collective call for a safer and more just society.
