38th National Eye Donation FortNight – 2023

Eye donation fortnight awareness program was conducted from 25th August 2023 to 8th September 2023 organized by dept. of Ophthalmology, Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore. Many cultural events were conducted for MBBS, DOT students & Optometry on 1st & 2nd Sep 2023 such as face painting, creative writing, poster making, quiz & Pictionary, to create awareness on the importance of eye donation. On 5th September 2023, Final day of the fortnight, a grand event was celebrated at RRMCH organized by dept. of ophthalmology, Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore. Event went on from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Dr. Kaushal Kumar, HOD & prof, Dept of Ophthalmology started the program by giving welcome address. After the lamp lighting by the dignitaries, there was invocation song to seek the blessings of lord Ganesha. The Chief Guest, Dr. Thungappa K S a senior Cornea Consultant from Manjunath Nethralaya and Dr. Vidyashankar G K again a senior consultant for cornea and anterior segment from Udaya Ravi Eye Hospital gave an educational speech on eye donation and different techniques of corneal transplantation. This was followed by energetic dance performances, skits, musical performances and prize distribution for all winners who had participated in the events that were conducted. Mementos were awarded as a token of appreciation to NGO’s to honor their support towards this program. The program was concluded with a vote of thanks encouraging people to pledge their eyes & create awareness regarding eye donation. For the general public, street play and skit was organized regarding awareness on eye donation on 6th 7th & 8th of September 2023 An outreach program was also organized at the PHC Kengeri on 5th September and K.Gollahalli on 7th September, 3rd year MBBS students, DOT students and Interns participated in this program to spread the word on the benefits of eye donation in the form of a skits and speeches.
