Eye Donation Awareness Program 2026
The 41st National Eye Donation Fortnight – 2026 was commemorated on 25th August 2026 at Raja RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital (RRMCH) under the theme “Vision Beyond Life: The Ultimate Legacy”. The event was hosted by the Department of Ophthalmology at the Kadamba Auditorium, RRMCH, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Leading up to the main event, a series of eye donation awareness activities were conducted from the 9.00am to 11.00am, witnessing active participation from the Department of Ophthalmology and the 8th and 9th Term Students.
Dr. Nithisha T.M., Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the vital significance of eye donation in restoring sight and urging the medical community to continue spreading awareness and encouraging donor pledges.
The event’s focal point was an insightful session delivered by the Chief Guest, Dr. Pallavi Joshi, Senior Consultant in the Department of Cornea, Ocular Surface and Refractive Surgery at Shankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore. She presented an informative talk on corneal transplantation, current clinical challenges, and the essential role of public participation in improving donor availability.
As part of the celebrations, a felicitation and prize distribution ceremony was held to honor the winners of the various competitions conducted to promote eye donation awareness. This was followed by a vibrant cultural program performed by the 1st year Junior Residents, department of Ophthalmology.
The program concluded with vote of thanks speech, expressing deep gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty, students, and the organizing team for their invaluable contributions in making the event a resounding success.
