RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital (RRMCH) celebrated the auspicious festivals of Makara Sankranthi and Pongal with great grandeur, cultural richness, and traditional fervour, transforming the entire campus into a vibrant hub of festive joy.

The campus wore a resplendent festive look, with the lobby beautifully decorated in an authentic rural theme that evoked the essence of traditional Indian harvest celebrations. The thoughtfully curated décor, complete with traditional elements, transported everyone to a serene village setting, creating an atmosphere of warmth and nostalgia.

The celebrations commenced with a grand puja, symbolizing gratitude to nature and prosperity. Prasadam, including sweet Pongal, kara Pongal, and the traditional ‘ellu-bella’, was distributed to all. In keeping with age-old customs, cows were ceremonially welcomed, worshipped, and lovingly fed delicacies such as sweet Pongal, sweet potatoes, and groundnuts, highlighting the cultural significance of livestock in agrarian traditions.

Adding to the festive spirit were numerous activity stalls that attracted enthusiastic participation. These included clay pot making, pot painting, sugarcane juice stalls, mocktail counters, mehndi application, and several other interactive experiences that brought traditional arts and flavours to life.

The celebration was further enriched by a variety of cultural programs, including melodious songs and vibrant dance performances that showcased talent and tradition. Traditional games such as tug of war, pot breaking, and kite flying added excitement and fun, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition. Winners were felicitated with prizes, encouraging enthusiastic participation.

The event witnessed active involvement from the Management, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students, all dressed in elegant and colourful traditional attire. The joyous participation, unity, and enthusiasm displayed by everyone made the Makara Sankranthi and Pongal celebrations at RRMCH a truly memorable occasion, reflecting the institution’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering community bonding.
