Guest Lecture on “Artificial Intelligence in Dermatology”

The Department of Dermatology at RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital organized a Guest Lecture on “Artificial Intelligence in Dermatology” on 20th February 2026 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the college campus. The session aimed to provide insights into the rapidly evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern dermatological practice and research.

The lecture was delivered by renowned dermatologist D. S. Krupa Shankar, who presented a comprehensive overview of AI applications in dermatology. He elaborated on the integration of AI in routine clinical OPD practice, clinical decision support systems, tele dermatology services, and research advancements. The session emphasized how AI enhances diagnostic precision, streamlines workflow, and supports evidence-based practice, while underscoring the indispensable role of clinical judgment, ethical responsibility, and compassionate patient care.

A special focus was placed on the relevance of AI for postgraduate students, highlighting its utility in academic research, dissertation work, data interpretation, and scientific publications. The lecture provided valuable perspectives on how emerging technologies can be responsibly adopted in clinical and academic settings.

The program was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Priya, Professor and Head of the Department, along with the dedicated efforts of faculty members and postgraduate students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty across various departments, postgraduate students, and interns, followed by an engaging interactive discussion.

CME on Surgical Pathology

The Department of Pathology, Rajarajeshwari Medical College & Hospital, successfully organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled “Small Biopsies, Big Decisions: CME on Surgical Pathology” on 13th February 2026 at Kadamba Hall, RRMCH Campus.
The CME brought together eminent experts and practicing pathologists for an enriching academic exchange focused on contemporary diagnostic challenges and advancements in surgical pathology. The program commenced with registration, followed by a series of insightful scientific sessions delivered by distinguished faculty from leading institutions.
The first session, “Practical GI Biopsy Pathology”, was delivered by Dr. K. V. Santhosh, Senior Consultant Pathologist, Metropolis Health Care Limited, Bengaluru. The session emphasized a systematic approach to gastrointestinal biopsy interpretation, highlighting diagnostic pitfalls, inflammatory patterns, dysplasia assessment, and clinicopathological correlation.
Prasad M. S. N., Chief Pathologist & Managing Partner, Cluepath Diagnostics, Bengaluru. The lecture covered the broad spectrum of bladder pathology, with special emphasis on histomorphology and standardized reporting.
The third scientific lecture, “Decoding Endometrial Biopsies”, was delivered by Dr. Suma M. N., Associate Professor at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru. The session focused on interpretation of endometrial patterns, evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding, classification of hyperplasia, and early identification of malignancy.
Post-lunch, Dr. Sahil Saraf, Senior Specialist at V.G. Saraf Memorial Hospital, Kochi, presented “AI in Prostate Biopsies”, highlighting the evolving role of artificial intelligence, digital pathology integration, grading standardization, and future directions in diagnostic pathology.
The concluding session, “Morphology Matters! – From Slide to Diagnosis” , was delivered by Dr. Shashikala Krishnamurthy, Professor and Head of Department at SS Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre. The talk underscored the continued importance of strong morphological foundations in the era of molecular diagnostics and technological advancement. The CME concluded with a valedictory function and high tea. The program was well received by participants and served as a valuable platform for knowledge enhancement, professional interaction, and strengthening diagnostic expertise in surgical pathology.

The MoU was formalized in the presence of Dr. Rakesh Mishra, Director, TIGS, and Dr. Sathyamurthy B, Dean, RRMCH. World Leprosy Day Observance

The Department of Dermatology, RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital (RRMCH), observed World Leprosy Day on 10th February 2026 with a series of awareness initiatives aimed at educating the public and healthcare community about leprosy and addressing the stigma associated with the disease.

The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Priya K.S., Professor & Head of the Department, along with faculty members Dr. Belliappa, Dr. Harikishan Y., Dr. Leena R., Dr. Lokanatha, and Dr. Kavya C.

Awareness Through Creative Engagement
As part of the observance, postgraduate students of the Department presented a thematic skit in the presence of patients, members of the public, staff, and students. The performance effectively highlighted:
• Causes and early signs of leprosy
• Importance of timely diagnosis
• Availability of effective treatment
• Common myths and social misconceptions
The skit served as a powerful tool in spreading awareness and encouraging early medical consultation.

Addressing Social Stigma
A motivational and informative talk was delivered by Dr. Shanmukha M.N., focusing on eliminating the social stigma and discrimination faced by individuals affected by leprosy. The session emphasized compassion, awareness, and the role of society in supporting patients.

Academic Engagement – Leprosy Quiz
To enhance knowledge and promote academic involvement, a Leprosy Awareness Quiz was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Akshay Samagani, who served as the Quiz Master. Participants actively engaged in the event, and winners were felicitated with prizes and certificates by the Dean, Principal, and Medical Superintendent.

Commitment to Public Health
The observance successfully reinforced the importance of early diagnosis, complete treatment adherence, and stigma elimination. The initiative reflects RRMCH’s continued commitment to community health education and holistic patient care.

AOICON 2026

RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital take immense pride in announcing that Dr. Rajendran Dinesh Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of ENT & Head and Neck Surgery, was honoured with the Best Reviewer Certificate for his outstanding contribution as a reviewer for the Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery for the year 2024–2025.

The prestigious award was conferred during the 77th Annual National Conference of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOICON 2026), held from 8th to 11th January 2026 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata. The conference, themed “Embark on a Journey of Innovation, Collaboration and Excellence,” brought together leading otolaryngologists and academicians from across the country.

In addition to receiving this recognition, Dr. Rajendran Dinesh Kumar served as an Invited Faculty and Judge for the Postgraduate Paper Presentation sessions at the conference. He also delivered an academic lecture on “Radiology: HRCT of the Temporal Bone and Biologics in Allergic Rhinitis,” which was highly appreciated by delegates, faculty members, and the organizing committee for its academic depth and clinical relevance.

PHONOCON 2026 was jointly organized by the Association of Phono surgeons of India (APSI) and the Department of ENT, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences. RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital was privileged to be entrusted with the responsibility of hosting the Preconference Workshop, an honour that reflects the institution’s academic excellence and commitment to advancing clinical practice.

The institution received special appreciation from APSI for the successful organization of the workshop. A moment of great pride for RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital was the special acknowledgment of Dr. T. M. Nagaraj, Professor and Head, Department of ENT & Head and Neck Surgery, along with his dedicated team, during the Inaugural Ceremony of PHONOCON 2026. This recognition was in appreciation of his exemplary leadership in conducting the FEES (Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) Preconference Workshop on 5th February 2026.

PTM Committee have organized “First Parent Teacher’s Meet 2026” for First MBBS batch students on

MBBS Phase I (Batch 2025–26)
The first Parent–Teacher Meeting (PTM) for the MBBS Phase I Batch (2025–26) was organized by the PTM Committee of Rajarajeswari Medical College & Hospital and conducted on Thursday, 19th February 2026, at Kadamba Auditorium, RRMCH College Building. As a prelude to the scheduled PTM, mentors of the 2025–26 batch had shared detailed academic performance reports, including internal assessment marks and attendance records, with parents well in advance via email. This proactive communication enabled meaningful and focused discussions during the meeting.

Objectives of the PTM
The meeting was convened with the following objectives:
1. To discuss the academic progress and attendance of students.
2. To sensitize parents regarding university requirements and eligibility criteria for appearing in the final university examinations. 3. To address concerns related to hostel accommodation, fee structure, and other academic or administrative matters. Inaugural Session

The PTM commenced at 9:30 AM with an inaugural address delivered by Dr. Prathibha K, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, on behalf of the PTM Committee.
This was followed by a welcome address by Dr. Sathyamurthy, Dean of RRMCH, who warmly greeted the parents and emphasized the importance of collaborative engagement between parents and faculty in shaping students’ academic success.
Dr. Shruthi, Professor, Department of Anatomy and Chairperson of the Institutional Mentor–Mentee Program, delivered a concise PowerPoint presentation outlining the university examination eligibility criteria, attendance requirements, and academic expectations.

Interactive Session
The formal addresses were followed by an interactive session between parents and mentors. Constructive discussions focused on academic performance, learning challenges, and strategies for improvement.
Parents of slow learners were advised to meet the Heads of the Preclinical Departments, who were present at the venue along with faculty mentors, for detailed academic guidance and support.
Concerns related to hostel facilities, fee payments, and administrative matters were addressed by the respective hostel wardens and representatives from the academic section, who were available throughout the program for consultation.

Student Participation & Hospitality
The event was efficiently moderated with the support of student volunteers from the 2025–26 batch. The volunteers assisted in guiding parents, coordinating sessions, and facilitating smooth interactions between faculty and parents.
Refreshments were thoughtfully arranged outside Kadamba Auditorium for faculty and parents. Both pre-lunch and post-lunch interactive sessions were conducted seamlessly, and the PTM formally concluded at 4:00 PM.

Attendance & Feedback
Parents of 111 students attended the PTM in person. Several parents who were unable to attend due to personal commitments or long-distance travel communicated via email with respective mentors, expressing their intent to meet faculty members in the coming days. Feedback forms were collected from all attending parents and documented for review. An outcome analysis is planned and will be shared with members of the PTM Committee to facilitate improvements in planning and conducting the second PTM, tentatively scheduled for June 2026. The successful conduct of the first PTM reflects the institution’s continued commitment to transparent communication, academic excellence, and holistic student development through active parent–faculty collaboration.

Pre-Conference Workshop on Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)

The Department of ENT – Head & Neck Surgery, RajaRajeswari Medical College & Hospital (RRMCH), successfully organized a Pre-Conference Workshop on Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) on 5th February 2026, in association with PHONOCON 2026, the 21st Annual Conference of the Association of Phonosurgeons of India.

The academic session featured enlightening lectures by eminent laryngeal consultants and experts in the field. The faculty included Dr. Manjunath M.K., Senior Consultant – ENT & Laryngology, Gleneagles BGS Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Manju E. Issac, Senior Consultant – Laryngology, Dr. Jayakumar’s Laryngology Group, Thiruvananthapuram; Dr. Raghavi Vishnu Prasanna, Consultant Laryngologist, Sri VAS Clinic, Chennai; Dr. Vishnu Vinayakumar, Consultant – ENT & Laryngology; and Dr. Arunima S., Consultant – ENT & Laryngology.

The speakers shared their clinical expertise and practical insights on the role of FEES in the assessment and management of swallowing disorders. The session was formally addressed by Dr. T. M. Nagaraj, Professor and Head, Department of ENT – Head & Neck Surgery, who highlighted the importance of skill-based training and interdisciplinary learning in contemporary otolaryngology. The distinguished faculty were felicitated by Dr. T. M. Nagaraj, Dr. Rangalakshmi (PG Dean), Dr. Adarsh (PG Dean), and Dr. Sahajanand S.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from delegates across the country, underscoring its national academic significance. The second half of the program consisted of a hands-on FEES training session conducted in the department’s state-of-the-art Skill Lab. Delegates were provided hands-on experience in performing FEES on patients under expert guidance and practiced endoscopic techniques using mannequins, making the workshop highly interactive and clinically enriching.

The workshop was widely appreciated for its academic excellence, practical exposure, and its contribution to enhancing clinical competence in swallowing evaluation.
