Awareness programme on the occasion of 37th Eye Donation Fortnight

Eye donation fortnight awareness program was conducted from 25th August 2022 to 8th Sep 2022 organized by Dept. of Ophthalmology, RRMCH, and Bangalore. To create awareness for the importance of eye donation through cultural events for MBBS and DOT students on 2ndand 3rd Sep 2022 such as face painting, creative writing, poster making, quiz & Pictionary were conducted. To create awareness among the public on Eye Donation, Radio Publicity was also done on 6th 7th & 8th of September 2022 through Radio Jingles on Rainbow FM 101 channel. An outreach program was also organized at PHC Kengeri on 5th September 2022 and K.Gollahalli on 7th September 2022 by all the 3rd year MBBS students, DOT students and Interns who actively participated in this program by spreading the awareness on the benefits of eye donation in the form of skits and speeches. On 8th September, the last day of the fortnight, a grand event was organized and celebrated at RRMCH by the Department of Ophthalmology, RRMCH, Bangalore. Event took place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Dr. Kaushal Kumar, HOD & prof, Dept of Ophthalmology started the program by giving welcome address followed by lamp lighting by the dignitaries. The program started with an invocation song to seek the blessings of lord Ganesha by Dr.Sathya lakshmi. The Chief Guest, Dr. M.S. Ravindra, Chairman and Managing Director of Karthik Netralaya and Dr. Deepthi R Meda, Director and Consultant Cornea & Refractive Surgery Karthik Netralaya gave an educational speech on eye donation and also enlightened about different techniques of corneal transplantation. This was followed by energetic dance performances and prize distribution. We awarded Mementos to NGO’s to honor their support. At the end of the program a whimsical fashion show was put on by the Post graduate students, depicting the preventable causes of blindness. Program was concluded by a vote of thanks encouraging people to pledge their eyes & create awareness regarding eye donation.
